We're getting a first look at potential designs for the new City of Sarasota seal.

The City Commission got a look at possible contenders at a meeting on Monday.

Most of the designs have the Ringling Causeway bridge, nature, and the sun.

The City Commission is looking for more public input before they make a decision.

The City of Sarasota invited the community to submit designs for a new seal back in May.

The purpose of the contest is to allow the larger community to play a role in the development of Sarasota’s evolving brand.

The existing seal, which features marine life, coastal imagery and the words “May Sarasota Prosper,” is used on official City documents.

It dates back to the City’s incorporation in 1902.

The seal design contest is part of a rebranding effort approved by the City Commission last year.

The seal design competition was open to all, regardless of age, skill level and background. The contest closed June 15.

The top submissions were selected by a diverse panel of community members.

The designs were finally presented to the City Commission on August 1.

The City seal differs from the City logo, which features a silhouette of the statue of David and was adopted in 1988.

The contest was solely for the redesign of the City seal, not the logo. The logo will be refreshed by DreamLarge later this year and will be presented to the City Commission in the fall.

DreamLarge has previously led rebranding efforts for a number of community projects, including All Faiths Food Bank, the Library Foundation for Sarasota County and The Bay Sarasota.
