Julia Groom, director of strategic initiatives at DreamLarge, expected 2020 to be like any other year.

Groom, 24, started the year focused on organizing the events that DreamLarge is known for.

There was PINC – which brings speakers from around the world to Sarasota for a sort of local, super-sized TED Talk – and DreamLarge Weekends, where kids are brought together to work on community problems while developing entrepreneurial skills and connecting with mentors.

These idea-driven events and programs, she says, are meant to inspire the community for the greater good.

Then came COVID-19.

“We didn’t feel like we could host the same type of programs in a way that would be as beneficial to the community, at the same level we have always operated under,” she said.

Groom had to ask herself the questions tens of thousands of other businesses have faced this year: What now? How do we move forward?

Helping the helpers

They were lucky, Groom says, because not every business has the kind of flexibility DreamLarge enjoys.

The company is part of a triumvirate of boutique agencies founded by Anand Pallegar that also includes AtLarge and Atlas.

AtLarge handles public relations, branding and websites; Atlas does cloud computing and application development.
